A review of common issues and pitfalls that arise in the intersection between estate planning and the evolving area of family support and property law.

Join us for an engaging conversation at the intersection of family law and estate planning. Discussed will be valuable tips to consider as part of a carefully considered estate plan as well as potential traps that all estate planning professionals should be aware of.

Gary Kirk is the managing partner at Kirk Montoute Dawson LLP, a boutique family and estate law firm, and has been practicing for over 25 years. He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and has numerous reported cases in the areas of family and estate litigation. Gary was an instructor for the Canadian Centre For Professional Legal Education Negotiation Module for 5 years. He has been a featured speaker for multiple Canadian Bar Association events, a repeat presenter of seminars for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, and recently authored an article for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP)’s newsletter, STEP Inside.

Gary has been recognized by his peers as among the ‘Best Lawyers’ in the areas of Family Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution for the past four years. In addition to the practice areas of Family Law and Wills & Estates, Gary is has extensive training as a Mediator and Arbitrator and has participated in numerous Mediation, Arbitration and Judicial Dispute Resolution Hearings, both as counsel and as Mediator/Arbitrator.
